Well, we just had Easter at the house on Sunday, lots of family and a few friends, and it was such fun! We had an egg hunt (it was awesome to see my grandparents hunting for eggs!) and everyone brought a dish to share, so there are tons of leftovers. I added two new pies to my repertoire: banana cream pie and coconut cream pie. I made them both entirely from scratch, from the pie crust to the whipped cream topping. I even toasted coconut for the top! I find cooking and baking to be very therapeutic so I enjoyed it. And they turned out great, if I do say so myself! :)
Lately, Jason and I have been working on the exterior of the house in any small way we can. During Jason's spring break, he planted new flower plants alongside one side of the house that gets the most direct sun and also put up a crawling yellow flower vine on a lattice. On Saturday, my mom and I went to Seven Day Nursery in town and I got a new white flower hanging plant for the front porch and a pre-made potted flower arrangement, which consists of a beautiful arrangement of yellow, orange and white flowers. I also planted new yellow, orange, red and pink flowers in front of the porch and alongside the house that gets the most shade, the front! It all turned out really nice and the house is starting to get it's curb appeal back! It's such a cute little house and it makes me proud that we're putting new life into it again.
We're officially re-doing the master bathroom sometime in June: down comes the '70's retro wallpaper and up comes the original flooring. We're putting in tile, and painting the whole thing a nice buttercup yellow to make the wall tiles pop. I think it'll turn out nicely and I'm excited for the transition! My dad says the bathroom hasn't been renovated since he was a teenager and that's been...well, I think it's safe to say it's been awhile. It'll be bittersweet to see the old retro look go. It's a nice tribute to my grandparents since this was their house and I think of them when I look at it but at the same time, it's definitely needed. The wallpaper is starting to peel in places and rust is coming through the paint in spots on the ceiling and around the window. They're here in other ways, so the bathroom is going to get it's facelift.
Ok, that's my April update. Hope spring is treating everyone well, and I'll most likely see you in May!
