Time Flies

It's been awhile since I last blogged so let's see...what have we been up to?

Work, work and more work it seems. Jason is super busy this year, running TWO band programs, one at La Colina Junior High and the other at San Marcos High School. In his "spare time" he teaches 3 elementary schools, too. He's also playing in the Monday Madness Jazz Band on Monday nights at the local city college so he's got his schedule pretty well packed between teaching, meetings, competitions with the marching band, rehearsals, gigs and fundraising. Yahoo. I'm working more hours as well, but I think some of that will fall away once the learning curve narrows a bit. I'm on salary now which is awesome but with it comes the fact that you're there until you're done, which isn't so awesome. I'm still getting used to my new responsibilities and finding a happy medium between my two departments: activities and social services. Only time will tell. With the economy being the way it is, we're just both really grateful to have our jobs!!

In the mean time, my little cousin Jake turned two and we attended his 2nd birthday party BBQ in Buellton, or B-town as we like to call it. He's getting so big and expecting a little brother or sister in the early spring. Very exciting! :) Here's a picture of Jake and I at his party:

One of my best friends, Faeron, competed in a triathlon yesterday in Carpinteria, which is about 10 miles South of us. Her heat started at 7:30am and we stayed the whole time to be her cheering squad/camera crew. It was a lot of fun and I was completely impressed with her abilities as an athlete. She's only been doing this for about a year and is really into it, which if you knew Faeron in high school well, let's just say in comparison to that Faeron, the emergence of the athlete Faeron was very unexpected. But she's really enjoying it and doing super well. She got 2nd place in her age group, so congrats again to Faeron! :)

What else? Holiday plans are already in full swing. We're planning on heading up to NorCal over the weekend of Dec. 20th to spend time with Jason's family for Christmas. His parents and brother and sister-in-law are flying in and if past times have been any indication, there will be about 50+ Nam's/other family in attendance. It's always a nice time and because we're going earlier than the actualy day of Christmas, that means we'll be home for Christmas day which always makes me happy! I just love waking up Christmas morning, making something warm to drink and sitting in front of the tree opening gifts with the sounds of Mannheim Steamroller playing in the background. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it!

I think Jason and I are going to head over to the Lane Farms pumpkin patch this coming weekend to do the annual corn maze (much to Jason's dismay) and pick out the perfect pumpkin to display proudly on our porch. I think Jason even suggested doing a bale of hay as well so stay tuned for autumn decoration photos! Once I'm let loose...watch out!
