Jesusita Fire

It's been a crazy few days here in Santa Barbara. The 3rd wildfire in 9 months has taken a turn for the worst, exploding along the ridge line of mountains just behind Santa Barbara and Goleta. Jason's primary school site, La Colina, is in the danger zone, and if that were to burn...well, let's just say our lives would be very negatively impacted. As I'm typing this, we're experiencing poor surges, so I hope to finish this post before it goes black. It's been raining ash all evening, and the smoke in the air is just horrible. The fire has burned nearly 3,000 acres, taking with it an estimated 75+ homes. Many of our friends and their families have been evacuated and it's moving threateningly close to Santa Barbara proper. The last count of evacuees was 12,000 with 1,200+ homes being endangered. In all honesty, it looks like a war zone. Because of the structures that are threatened and the number of people impacted, it's definitely turning out to be one of the worst fires the city has ever experienced.

Jason and I live close to the beach, about 5 miles or so away from the moutain ridge so we're safe, but it's just so sad to see our beloved city going up in flames. Below are some shots I took today from our house and in some surrounding areas. From the pictures, you can see the air quality (or lack there-of). Since we live behind a hill, I couldn't get any shots of the fire at night but I'm sure you've seen it on the news. Please keep our little city, and it's residents, in your thoughts and prayers!
