February is American Heart Month

Heart disease has touched my life in ways I never imagined possible. I have a history of heart disease in my family and of course, have my own heart health issues to contend with. February is American Heart Month --- I'm willing to wager that heart disease has affected YOU in some way, shape or form, too. Did you know....

-Heart disease is the #1 cause of death among women aged 20 or older, killing one woman every minute.

-2,200 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, an average of 1 every 39 seconds.

-90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.

-More women die of heart disease than the next four factors combined, including all forms of cancer.

-More than 82 million American adults are estimated to have one or more types of cardiovascular disease. That's one in three people.

Facts taken from americanheart.org

My hope for you this month, and always, is to know the signs. Know your risks and strive to live heart healthy. To help raise awareness for heart disease and heart disease in women in particular, Friday, February 4th is National Wear Red Day. All across the country, people will be wearing red to show their support for Go Red For Women and to help raise awareness of heart disease. This Friday, Go Red for someone you love.
